Abstract

Mangrove areas constitute an ecosystem that plays a vital role in maintaining the balance of coastal regions. Pressures arising from human activities, land-use changes, coastal development, resource exploitation, erosion processes, and environmental changes have caused damage to various coastal areas. The degradation of mangrove ecosystems can diminish these essential functions and increase the vulnerability of coastal regions to environmental disturbances. Consequently, mangrove rehabilitation is a crucial component of coastal ecosystem restoration efforts. This initiative aimed to rehabilitate mangroves through planting activities in Baskara Bakti Village. A descriptive method was employed, utilizing field observations and a community-based questionnaire survey. The project was executed in several stages: site surveying, seedling preparation, mangrove planting, and initial monitoring. The planting activities encompassed site preparation, seedling planting, and initial maintenance, all carried out collaboratively with the involvement of academics, local residents, village government officials, university students (via the Community Service Program/KKN), and other community groups. Questionnaires were distributed to participants to assess four key indicators: knowledge of mangroves and the environment; knowledge of mangrove conservation; management and maintenance of mangrove plants; and collaborative management of conservation areas. Based on the assessment of 34 indicator items, the overall average score was 2.70, representing an achievement rate of 90.05%—a result classified as "excellent." These findings indicate that, overall, the respondents possess an excellent level of understanding and readiness to support mangrove ecosystem conservation and rehabilitation efforts.
