Abstract


 

 

This study discusses the role of Islamic Religion Teachers in overcoming students' difficulties in reading the Qur'an at Madrasah Aliyah Islahiyah, Panipahan-Riau. The difficulties faced by students in reading the Qur'an are quite varied so that teachers are required to be proficient in overcoming them. The purpose of the research is to identify the types of difficulties faced by students in reading the Qur'an and to reveal the factors that influence these difficulties and at the same time describe the steps taken by Islamic Religious Education Teachers as mentors in overcoming these difficulties. This type of research is a qualitative descriptive research involving students and teachers as research participants and using the instruments of observation, interviews and documentation in data collection. The data is analyzed in such a way and a data reduction process is carried out so that in turn conclusions are drawn. The conclusion of this study, first is that students' difficulties in reading the Qur'an regarding how to pronounce the letters Hijaiyah (Makharijul Letters), are weak in mastering the rules of Tajweed science and not fluent in reading. Second, the factors that influence the difficulty in reading the Qur'an are related to aspects of interest in reading the Qur'an; students are less motivated either by family or social environment which is less conducive. Third, the efforts of Islamic Religious Education Teachers as mentors in overcoming students' difficulties in reading the Qur'an include aspects of effectiveness and time efficiency, such as grouping students who are not smart by increasing the duration of learning by 1 hour and forming a reading learning forum which is held once a week.
