Abstract

This research aims to explain the concept of moral education according to Buya Hamka's views. This was deliberately raised in order to contribute to moral development for teenagers, especially at the primary and secondary levels, where it is suspected that there is a phenomenon of moral decadence among them. What does it mean for a student to achieve high academic achievement but have poor morals? Even though it is said in that al-adabu faoqa ilmi; manners above knowledge. Buya Hamka's idea is that he did not write a special book about moral education, but his works contain educational content from an Islamic perspective by emphasizing morals as a vital element in education. This research is a library research using the content analysis method of various books related to Buya Hamka's thoughts, whether through his work directly as a primary source or the writings of scholars who wrote about Buya Hamka as a secondary source. In analysing the data, interpretation and internal coherence methods are used, and in describing it, a historical-philosophical approach is used. The results of this research show that the moral education ideas of Buya Hamka have relevance to the theory and practice of Islamic education in Indonesia. Especially in providing recommendations for the development of the educational curriculum, apart from covering the cognitive (science), psychomotor (skills) and affective (morals) domains, Buya Hamka added the spiritual domain (faith) to the curriculum content in a broad sense.
