PENINGKATAN KEMAMPUAN BERBICARA BAHASA INGGRIS MELALUI METODA BERMAIN PERAN DI AKPER MALAHAYATI MEDAN
Abstract
Speaking is one of the productive skills in language learning beside 3 others skills in language: listening, reading and writing. Those four skills are connected each other. The connections give influence to one another. Speaking skill talks about the art of speaking in delivering messages, ideas, thoughts, with various purposes like to report, entertain, persuade or convince other people. By speaking, people interact and create social relationship among them.
The research was class action research with the purpose to find out whether the role play method can improve the English speaking skill of the students. The sample of this research was the second semester students of the academic year 2015/2016. As the instrument of the research, the action test was used covered the speaking skill in language and non language aspects. To analyze the data, it used the Mean formulae to calculate the mean score of the students with the criteria, if the mean score is at least 75% and improved in each cycle, then it was assumed that the role play method worked.
The result showed that the students’ mean score in speaking test in cycle 1 was 77,0, improved about 11,32 point form the pre action class, and improved 4,9 point became 81,9 in the cycle 2. The amounts of students passed the minimum criteria in cycle 1 are 12 students and 16 students in cycle 2. This mean that the role play method could improve the students’ English speaking skills, and for the percentage of improvements has reached 88,9% of all students, then the action class research was stopped in the cycle 2.
