Abstract

Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) is type of virus that damages human immune system. This virus attacks CD4 which is on surface of human white blood cells, especially lymphocyte cells. Decreasing CD4 counts will cause the body's immune system to decrease, increasing the risk of opportunistic infections.

This study was conducted to analyze the effect of giving cork fish nugget and fruit juice to CD4 and opportunistic infections in HIV-infected people at "Bahagia" Social Rehabilitation Center.

This type of research is quasi experiment with pre and post test design. The study sample were 40 students who  infected with HIV at "Bahagia" Social Rehabilitation Center who were given cork fish nuggets and colored juice for 24 days. Data analysis used paired T test on CD4 data and Wilcoxon test on data of opportunistic infections. This research was conducted in September 2018 - January 2019. Collection of CD4 data carried out by blood examination using flow cyto-metri method and opportunistic infections was carried out by interview method and direct observation using an opportunistic infection form.

The results showed that there was influence before and after the administration of cork fish nugget and colored fruit juice to CD4 and opportunistic infections with a value of p = 0.001. Longer term administration was needed as  preventive measure for emergence of opportunistic infections and decrease in CD4 cell count.
