Abstract


Various studies have suggested that multimedia is very important in the process of teaching and learning activities. Therefore, this study tries to describe how multimedia can foster student interest in the teaching and learning process in Fiqh subjects at Madrasah Tsanawiyah (MTs) UMN al-Washliyah-Medan Amplas. This qualitative research uses the instruments of observation, interviews and document analysis in collecting the necessary data and information. The interview session was conducted for 20 to 30 minutes with a principal, a teacher in the field of study and several students who were members of the study group. The results of this study indicate that the use of multimedia is very supportive in learning activities, especially in learning Fiqh; the students are very motivated when the learning uses multimedia such as laptops, computers, LCD/projectors, internet networks, speakers and other media. Thus, multimedia plays an important role in fostering student interest in learning because they feel happy and interested in learning material in class including feelings of pleasure and interest in the material presented. They are motivated to learn so that they increase their attention and concentration while studying.
