Abstract

This research aims to find out and analyze the moral educational values of the Sampuraga folklore and how the story influences the formation of community morals in Longat Village, West Panyabungan, Mandailing Natal Regency. This field research with a qualitative approach also aims to reveal how the government and society in the area are trying to preserve the Sampuraga folklore. Data was obtained through interviews, observation and relevant documentation. The results show first, that the values of moral education in folklore originating from the main character Sampuraga are quite impressive among the people. Some attitudes are exemplary and must be implemented because they are in accordance with the moral message of the Qur'an and Hadith and likewise there are also attitudes that must be abandoned because they include bad morals. Moral values that are in accordance with the teachings of the Qur'an are courage, not easily giving up, honesty, perseverance and tenacity. On the other hand, morals that are not good and must be abandoned are rudeness, disobedience and dishonesty. Second, the people in Longat Village have 2 versions regarding the name of the area where the Sampuraga character comes from. Some say Sampuraga comes from a distant area without a name, and some say Sampuraga comes from the Padang Bolak area. Meanwhile, no one in Longat Village knows what year or century the Sampuraga legend occurred and who created the Sampuraga folklore. Third, the Sampuraga folklore has an influence on the formation of children's morals, such as regarding attitudes of love, respect and devotion to parents, as well as avoiding disobedience to parents. Fourth, according to teenagers, the story of the Legend of Sampuraga still has a positive influence in forming noble morals for the young generation in Longat Village, West Panyabungan District. Fifth, the interest of the people of Longat Village and those from outside this area is still quite high in visiting the Sampuraga Hot Springs Pool site. Sixth, the Regional Government has good attention to the Sampuraga Hot Springs Pool site as evidenced by the continuous construction and maintenance of the site.
